TIGERS KNOCK OFF THE BRAVES: The Tigers defeated the Braves 2-1 yesterday afternoon in a rain-shortened game. Justin Verlander (2-0) went the distance for Detroit to earn the win. Clete Thomas belted a solo home run for the Tigers.

TIGERS TRIM TWO PLAYERS FROM ROSTER: The Tigers today announced the club has optioned the contracts of righthanded pitcher Brayan Villarreal and lefthanded pitcher Duane Below to Triple A Toledo.

GOING YARD: Through 29 games of Grapefruit League action this spring the Tigers have belted 39 home runs. Detroit is tops among all American League clubs with 39 home runs this spring.

BOESCH IS BASHING: Brennan Boesch has hit safely in six of his last seven games, batting .348 (8x23) with a double, triple, three home runs and six RBI. He is tied for the lead in the Grapefruit League with six home runs this spring, while he is tied for fourth with 39 total bases and tied for sixth with 15 RBI.

DIRKS IS DIALED IN: Andy Dirks is hitting .458 (11x24) with six RBI over his last 10 games for the Tigers. He is second in the Grapefruit League with a .404 batting average this spring.

DELMON DOES DAMAGE: Delmon Young is tied for the lead in the Grapefruit League with 19 RBI this spring, while he is tied for fourth with 39 total bases, is fifth with a .365 batting average and tied for seventh with five home runs.

RABURN ROLLING THIS SPRING: Ryan Raburn is tied the lead among all Grapefruit League players with six home runs this spring, while he is third with 18 RBI and tied for ninth with 35 total bases.
