TIGERS KNOCK OFF THE NATIONALS: The Tigers defeated the Nationals 11-7 yesterday afternoon at Space Coast Stadium. Doug Fister (3-0) fanned seven batters in four innings of work to earn the win for Detroit. Clete Thomas led the Tigers with a single, home run and three RBI, while Austin Jackson added a single and two RBI.

TIGERS TRIM TWO PLAYERS FROM ROSTER: The Tigers today announced the club has optioned the contracts of righthanded pitcher Jose Ortega and lefthanded pitcher Matt Hoffman to Triple A Toledo.

GOING YARD: Through 16 games of Grapefruit League action this spring the Tigers have belted 23 home runs. Detroit is tops among all American League clubs with 23 home runs this spring.

STINGY STAFF: Tigers pitchers have compiled a 2.80 ERA through the club’s first 16 games of Grapefruit League action this spring. Detroit is second among all American League clubs with a 2.80 ERA.

DELMON DOES DAMAGE: Delmon Young has hit safely in 10 of his 11 games during Grapefruit League action this spring. He is tops in the Grapefruit League with a .519 batting average this spring, while he is second with 15 RBI and 27 total bases and tied for fourth with three home runs.

RABURN ROLLING THIS SPRING: Ryan Raburn is tops among all Grapefruit League players with five home runs, 16 RBI and 30 total bases this spring.

FOUR MINOR LEAGUERS JOIN TIGERS FOR TODAY’S GAME: The following four minor league players have joined the Tigers for today’s game versus the Phillies: righthanded pitchers Thad Weber (#36) and Robbie Weinhardt (#43), lefthanded pitcher Ramon Garcia (#52) and catcher Jeff Kunkel (#71).
