Jose Contreras doesn't appear to be the same reliever he was back in April.
That much was clear after the Phillies right-hander's latest misstep Friday night against the Cubs, when he surrendered four earned runs on two hits and two walks in one-third of an inning.
He's made seven appearances since returning from the disabled list May 26 and allowed six earned runs on six hits in his last 1 1/3 innings of relief over three games, this after allowing just one hit in his first 3 1/3 innings since returning.
"I'm concerned about him," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "He needs to get a little sharper. He's having command problems."
That wasn't the case at the start of the season, when Contreras was the club's closer and had converted all five of his save opportunities.
