Report: Mariners target ‘Bull’ DurhamBLADE STAFF
While the Mud Hens search for a new manager, they soon may need a new hitting coach as well.
The Seattle Times reported Monday that the Mariners spoke with Leon “Bull” Durham for the hitting coach position on the staff of new manager Eric Wedge. Durham’s competition for the job, according to the Times, includes former Phillies hitting coach Milt Thompson.
Durham has spent the last 10 seasons as the Mud Hens’ hitting coach. Prior to that, he spent five seasons as a hitting coach in the Angels organization, including four years in Triple-A.
Durham spent 10 years in the major leagues, primarily with St. Louis and the Chicago Cubs . The Cincinnati native was a National League all-star in 1982 and ’83 and hit 147 career home runs.
