| GDT: 7/25/10 GM 1- DET (50-45) VS TOR (49-48) - 1:05 p.m. ET --- VS --- Detroit Tigers VS Toronto Blue JaysSunday, July 25, 2010Comerica Park, Detroit, MIGame Time - 1:05 p.m. EDT______________________________________ Battered Tigers looking for a lift vs. the JaysBy Adam Berry / MLB.com Detroit fell, 3-2, to Toronto On Saturday, but that wasn't the greatest loss the club suffered in the game. Magglio Ordonez fractured his right ankle, Carlos Guillen strained his right calf and the reeling Tigers will have to forge on, likely without both, in Sunday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays. Ordonez will miss six-to-eight weeks, and the club did not announce Guillen's status for Sunday's day-night twin bill on Saturday night. "It's tough. Carlos and Magglio are big guys for us," said Ramon Santiago, who stepped in as the designated hitter when Ordonez left the game in the third inning. "At the same time, we have to find a way to fight. Somebody is going to have to step up and do something good." With third baseman Brandon Inge already on the disabled list with a fractured left hand, Detroit must soldier on despite critical injuries to a team that was looking to be a buyer at the upcoming Trade Deadline. The loss of key players like Ordonez and Inge also puts more pressure on the squad's role players to immediately step up and fill the void. "I think we've groomed these young players pretty good. Going through Spring Training and what I've seen from them this year, these young kids are very good and very talented," outfielder Johnny Damon said. "They are smart. We will make sure we know what they need to do. They've got a lot of determination. We are still a good team. But losing a guy like Magglio, that's huge." Detroit manager Jim Leyland decided to switch his team's starters for Sunday. Armando Galarraga will face Blue Jays lefty Brett Cecil in the matinee at Comerica Park, while Jeremy Bonderman will square off against Jesse Litsch in the nightcap. Of the four, Cecil (8-5) is the only one with a winning record and an ERA below 4.50, and the left-hander has been hot as of late, posting a 2.33 ERA over his three starts in July. "We have to get some good sleep and get the rest we need. It's a long day tomorrow," Detroit reliever Ryan Perry said. "I hope everyone goes out and takes it easy and relaxes and comes back ready to go to give it to them." Blue Jays: Wise enjoys playing the TigersOutfielder DeWayne Wise continued his impressive play against the Tigers on Saturday night, going 2-for-5 with a double and two runs. He entered the game hitting .324 against Detroit with three doubles, a triple and a home run. "It's something I noticed yesterday," Wise said. "The last couple of years, I really played against these guys well. But I'm not in [the lineup] every day, so I just have to go in the cage every day and prepare myself so that when I do get a chance, I can be ready." Tigers: Damon feeling under the weatherJohnny Damon was out of the lineup Saturday, citing a sickness that he believed was caused by a case of food poisoning. Leyland said Damon may have caught a bug that had reliever Phil Coke feeling ill earlier this week, so he decided to keep Damon out of the starting lineup. Damon ended up grounding out while pinch-hitting for Don Kelly in the ninth. Worth notingSunday's game will be the third contest in an 11-game stretch against American League East teams for the Tigers. So far this season, Detroit has gone 9-3 against clubs from the AL East. ... The Blue Jays have won nine of their past 14 meetings against the Tigers dating back to 2008, and Toronto has won the past two season series over that span. ______________________________________ Pitching matchup TIGERS: RHP Armando Galarraga (3-3, 4.50 ERA)The good news for Galarraga was that he pitched deep into his last start against Texas, with 7 1/3 innings. The bad news was that the Rangers got the ball into the air for 19 fly balls and line drives, many of them deep. He'll need more grounders from the Jays. BLUE JAYS: LHP Brett Cecil (8-5, 3.99 ERA) Cecil walked away with a no-decision in his last outing, against the Royals on Monday, when he gave up three runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings. The left-hander is 1-0 with a 2.33 ERA in three July starts for the Blue Jays. ______________________________________ From MLB Tigers Game NotesINJURY UPDATE: 3B Brandon Inge (non-displaced fracture of fifth metacarpal in left hand, 15-day DL on July 20), (out 4 to 6 weeks) RHP Zach Miner (right elbow tendinitis, 60-day DL on March 26), LHP Bobby Seay (left shoulder strain, 60-day DL on March 26), RHP Joel Zumaya (non-displaced fracture of the olecranon, 60-day DL on June 29). ______________________________________ To track MLB play-by-play, to help post GDT outcomes: http://m.mlb.com/scores/On the Internet MLB.TV Gameday Audio• Gameday• Official Press Pass game notesOn television • On radio• , • XM Channel Schedule• Direct TV Extra Innings Schedule______________________________________ Up next (Probable Pitchers)• Sunday, July 25 - DOUBLE HEADER GAME 2TIGERS (RHP Jeremy Bonderman (5-6, 4.98 ERA)) VS Blue Jays (RHP Jesse Litsch (1-4, 5.79 ERA)), 6:05 p.m. ET (NO DET TV (SNET & MLB.TV) - AM 1270 & 97.1 FM)• Monday, July 26TIGERS (RHP Max Scherzer (7-7, 4.43 ERA)) AT Rays (RHP Matt Garza (10-5, 4.36 ERA)), 7:10 p.m. ET (ESPN / AM 1270 & 97.1 FM)• Tuesday, July 27TIGERS (RHP Justin Verlander (12-5, 3.76 ERA)) AT Rays (RHP James Shields (8-9, 4.90 ERA)), 7:10 p.m. ET (FS-D HD / AM 1270 & 97.1 FM)• Wednesday, July 28TIGERS (TBA ( ERA)) AT Rays (RHP Jeff Niemann (8-3, 2.95 ERA)), 7:10 p.m. ET (FS-D HD / AM 1270 & 97.1 FM)• Thursday, July 29,TIGERS (TBA ( ERA)) AT Rays (LHP David Price (13-5, 2.90 ERA)), 12:10 p.m. ET (FS-D HD / AM 1270 & 97.1 FM)
