The wife of Diamondbacks relief pitcher Scott Schoeneweis was found dead Wednesday in the couple's Fountain Hills home, officials said.
Gabrielle Dawn Schoeneweis, 39, was found unresponsive in the family's home when Maricopa County sheriff's deputies arrived at 12:11 p.m.
Schoeneweis was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Maricopa County Sheriff's Office statement.
The couple's 14-year-old daughter told deputies she found her mother on the home's master bedroom floor, according to the statement.
An autopsy will be performed Friday to determine the cause of death, Ofie Mata of the Maricopa County Medical Examiners Office said in a telephone interview Thursday.
Lt. Brian Lee, a spokesperson for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, said there were no signs of foul play. Investigators have not ruled out anything, he said.
Gabrielle originally was from the Dallas area.
In an interview with an Internet radio show, Gabrielle Schoeneweis said she and Scott met on a blind date arranged by their mutual hairdresser and were married a few months later.
The couple had four children.
Diamondbacks manager A.J. Hinch said he heard the news 1 to 1 1/2 hours before the first game of a doubleheader against the Florida Marlins in Miami. Hinch then called a team meeting.
Diamondbacks General Manager Josh Byrnes said the team arranged a cab to the airport and a flight to Phoenix for Schoeneweis, even offering for pitcher Jon Garland, a close friend, to accompany him on the flight. Byrnes said Schoeneweis preferred to go alone.
"We're trying to support Scott as best we can," Byrnes said. "It seems like everyone in there (the clubhouse) was taking it pretty hard."
There is no word on funeral arrangements for Gabrielle Schoeneweis.
