| Dye hit with two-game suspensionWhite Sox slugger also fined for outburst Wednesday
By Tom Singer / MLB.com 05/15/09 3:44 PM ET White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye has been handed a two-game suspension, as well as an undisclosed fine, by Major League Baseball for his outburst following a strikeout in Wednesday's game against the Indians. With the White Sox trailing, 4-0, in the sixth and the bases loaded and two outs, Dye was called out by home-plate umpire Mike DiMuro on a 2-2 pitch from Cliff Lee. Dye protested the call, punctuating it by slamming his helmet off the ground. If Dye chooses to appeal the suspension, it will be held in abeyance until a hearing. Otherwise, it will begin with Friday's series opener against the Blue Jays in Toronto's Rogers Centre. Tom Singer is a reporter for MLB.com.
