Tigers End Season With 8-7 Loss in 13 InningsBy Jon Versteeg

Recap BoxABERDEEN, MD-The Aberdeen IronBirds (34-40) scored three runs in the 13th inning to earn an 8-7 win over the Connecticut Tigers (38-37) before 6,527 fans at Ripken Stadium. The loss ends the playoff chances for the Tigers, who needed a win on Sunday and a Tri-City loss in Brooklyn to earn the Stedler Division Championship and a ticket to the New York-Penn League playoffs.
Connecticut opened up the scoring in the first inning. 3B Josh Ashenbrenner (2-7) singled and moved to third base on a single by C Julio Rodriguez (3-7). A fielding error by Aberdeen CF Jeremy Nowak allowed Ashenbrenner to score for a 1-0 lead.
Aberdeen scored four runs in the second inning against Connecticut RHP Clemente Mendoza. 1B David Anderson (1-4) hit a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1. 3B Connor Narron (0-5) walked and went to third base on a double by 2B Sammie Starr (1-6).
CF Jeremy Nowak (1-4) followed with a two-run double to make it 3-1 Aberdeen.
With the Tigers down 4-1 in the third inning, CF P.J. Polk (2-7) and LF Ryan Enos (5-7) led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Ashenbrenner reached base on a fielder's choice with Polk retired at third base. Rodriguez singled to load the bases.
1B James Robbins (3-6) lifted a two-run double to right field to score Enos and Ashenbrenner and get the Tigers within one run at 4-3.
The Tigers scored the tying run in the fourth inning. DH Matt Perry (1-6) singled and went to second base on a sacrifice bunt by SS Dixon Machado (3-4). Enos followed with an RBI single to plate Perry and tie it at 4-4.
The game remained tied until the 11th inning. Machado hit a one-out single and moved to second base on a single by Polk. Enos lined a single through the right side of the infield to score Machado and make it 5-4 Connecticut.
The IronBirds tied the game in the 11th inning on an RBI single by C Joe Oliveira (1-2).
Connecticut scored two runs in the 13th inning to earn a 7-5 lead. Machado led off the inning with a walk and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Enos lined an RBI single to score Machado and give Connecticut a 6-5 lead. Ashenbrenner followed with a single to score Enos and make it 7-5.
The IronBirds scored three runs in the 13th inning to win the game. DH Mychael Givens (3-5) was hit by a pitch and RF Blair Dunlap (2-5) singled. SS Many Machado (2-7) smacked a triple off the wall in center field to score both men and tie the game at 7-7.
LF Kipp Schutz (1-6) lined a single into left field to give Aberdeen a "walk off" win and end the Tigers' season.
The Connecticut Tigers are the New York-Penn League affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. The team plays a 76-game schedule from mid-June through early September in the New York-Penn League, the oldest continually operating Class A League in all of Minor League Baseball.
